What are some good lighting alternatives to studio lights for taking photos?

I want to take better pictures but I'm really low on funds, really low. Any cheap but functional ideas? Wal-mart cheap...hahaha


ehhhhh, cheap tungsten lights. They are continuous lighting and get hot. Be careful using them around kids and animals.
