Is photographic lighting similar with film lighting?

I have a book in photohraphic lighting and I don't want it to go to waste... But the problem is I'm not that into photography but I'm practicing filmmaking... I'm not trying to be an expert on lighting but just so I know... thanks!

In a lot of respects it is, just generally uses different kinds of lights and the placement can vary some. A book on photographic lighting will get you started understanding the basics, so it won't go to waste.

I've shot a LOT of theatrical productions on both still and video equipment and the principles of theatrical lighting are similar to those of both photography and film making, but there are subtle differences, perhaps even more between fim and stage than photography and stage. Once you get the fundamentals down though, you can do a lot in film and video with simple and inexpensive lighting equipment.
